SoFly has released its latest project, Cardiff Airport (EGFF), for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This new airport, developed in collaboration with SkyHigh Studios, promises to be the most authentic and detailed rendition of the Welsh airport to date!
Cardiff Airport, the busiest airport in Wales, serves as a crucial gateway not only to the Welsh capital but to the entire country. Located in the Vale of Glamorgan, about 12 miles southwest of Cardiff’s city center, the airport connects around a million passengers annually to destinations across the UK, Europe, and beyond. Its significance extends beyond just commercial flights, as it also hosts military, private, and maintenance operations, making it a vital hub for various aviation activities in the region.
The development of Cardiff Airport for MSFS has been described as a labor of love, bringing together the expertise of SoFly and SkyHigh Studios. This collaboration has resulted in a highly realistic version of the airport, complete with advanced features that the developers hope will push the boundaries of what’s possible in scenery creation for flight simulation.
In fact, SoFly says that Cardiff Airport will offer simmers an experience like no other, thanks to the incorporation of state-of-the-art technologies. The airport will feature high-quality textures, a detailed projected ground polygon, and dynamic lighting that enhances the realism of the environment.
One of the standout features of this release is the fully animated and automated British Airways maintenance hangar, designed to accommodate large jets like the Boeing 777-300ER. The hangar operates with doors that open and close between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, providing a realistic setting for aircraft maintenance.
Additionally, the airport includes a fully modeled terminal interior, complete with animated people, and an intricately detailed control tower interior. The exterior of the airport is also populated with realistic clutter and animated figures, contributing to the airport’s lively atmosphere.
NxtGen Jetways
With this new release, SoFly is introducing its new “NxtGen Jetways”, promising a leap in realism in their sceneries with fully animated and lifelike jetways.
Despite the high level of detail throughout the scenery, SoFly assures that the airport has been optimized for performance, allowing users to enjoy the scenery without significant impact on their system’s performance.
Cardiff Airport by SoFly is now available for purchase exclusively through the SoFly store and other retailers like Contrail. The price is £12.00 plus VAT. In the weeks following the initial release, the product will be available in other stores and will also be available on the In-Sim Marketplace for both PC and Xbox players.
