Remember the COWS (Creator of WorldS) Diamond DA40-XLS we told you about a couple of weeks ago? Well, the wait is already starting to pay off with new details that give us a much clearer picture of what’s coming. The aircraft’s product page just went live on ORBX, and with it, some exciting updates for those of us eagerly awaiting the release.
For those who might’ve missed it, COWS first teased the DA40-XLS as a top-tier single-engine trainer aircraft designed to offer a realistic, immersive flying experience. And based on these new updates, it looks like it’s going to be exactly that.

The full details are over at Orbx’s page, but here are some that stand out:
- Flight Model Built on Instructor Feedback: One of the biggest draws of the DA40-XLS will be its flight model, developed from extensive instructor feedback. COWS says they have worked hard to craft a flying experience that feels as realistic as possible.
- Circuit Breakers and custom EIS: The DA40-XLS will have an accurate electrical system with functioning circuit breakers, alternator voltage simulation, and parasitic losses. Along with that, the custom Engine Indication System (EIS) promises to give a deeper level of control over engine performance.
- Cylinder Physics Simulation: The DA40-XLS includes a cylinder physics simulation, which adds an interesting layer of realism to engine management.
- Custom Soundtrack by Boris Vanian: If you’re the type who enjoys a little extra ambiance during your flights, COWS has partnered with Boris Vanian to provide a custom soundtrack for the DA40-XLS. Boris is one of the most talented audio technicians in the community and can craft a superb aircraft soundtrack like few others, so expect a great-sounding aircraft!
We also have several new teaser shots that are definitely worth a look. The DA40-XLS in flight, bathed in the glow of sunlight, looks stunning! It’s one of those images that immediately makes you want to hop into the cockpit and start flying. The cockpit itself is equally impressive, with sharp and detailed textures throughout.
Release Date: Early 2025
COWS is still sticking to their original target of early 2025 for the DA40-XLS release. While “early” can sometimes be a bit ambiguous, we’re hopeful that this means we’ll be seeing the aircraft sometime this month. If the DA42’s development process is anything to go by, we can expect a quality product—even if it takes a little longer to get it just right.
