ChasePlane confirmed for Microsoft Flight Simulator after years of anticipation

Parallel 42 has announced the imminent release of ChasePlane, its award-winning camera system, for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The revelation came via a dramatic teaser video posted on YouTube, narrated by co-founder Edson Soriano, who declared the add-on “now ready and coming soon.”

The announcement ends years of speculation and technical roadblocks, positioning ChasePlane as a transformative addition to the MSFS ecosystem.

A Long-Awaited Breakthrough

For years, the absence of ChasePlane in Microsoft’s flagship simulator has been a sore point for users accustomed to its cinematic flexibility in Prepar3D. Parallel 42 had repeatedly cited restrictive camera APIs in MSFS as the primary hurdle, with developers emphasizing that collaboration with Microsoft and Asobo was essential. Hopes briefly flared in 2023 when Parallel 42 met with MSFS head Jorg Neumann at FSExpo 2023 to discuss potential partnerships, but progress stalled until now.

ChasePlane for MSFS will allow users to create and share custom views, control camera movements (including roll axis and zoom), and utilize features like FlyBy cam and Cinematics Mode for dynamic perspectives.

It will also incorporate human, mounted, and chase camera physics to simulate realistic motion effects, such as turbulence and braking. ChasePlane aims to provide simmers with advanced camera control and a new way to experience Microsoft Flight Simulator.

While no specific release date was provided, Parallel 42’s track record of rapid development suggests a release may be coming soon, just as the video promises. It’s also unclear whether this release will happen only for MSFS 2024 or for MSFS 2024 as well.

We’ll undoubtedly receive more details about this highly anticipated add-on in the coming days. Stay tuned!
