Pimax is currently showcasing its latest VR headsets at Florida’s Sun ’n Fun Aerospace Expo, running from April 1st through 6th. Visitors to the event are getting hands-on with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, experienced through Pimax VR headsets: the Crystal Light and the new Crystal Super.
The demonstration is part of the Flight Simulation Pilot Proficiency Center, located at the Lakeland Aero Club building. Pimax has partnered with FlyInside, the simulation company responsible for organizing the exhibit. According to FlyInside founder Rick Miller, the aim is to provide visitors with an opportunity to explore how virtual reality hardware, when combined with MSFS 2024, can be used for practical flight training and familiarization.
“The level of professionalism that MSFS2024 and Pimax VR headsets provide, which normal consumers can bring into their homes, is really incredible,” Miller said in a statement. “This really helps pilots gain proficiency faster and prepare better for their real flight lessons.”
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 introduces a range of visual and simulation improvements compared to its predecessor. Pimax points to features such as enhanced environmental rendering and career progression as particularly well-suited to VR. In a statement published on the company’s blog, Pimax CEO Edwin Zhang said that the company’s goal is to demonstrate how consumer-priced VR headsets can be applied in personal or professional training contexts.
The company shared a set of photos from the event along with updated renders of the Crystal Light and Crystal Super, both of which are being shown on-site. The Super, which Pimax positions as its flagship headset, features higher brightness, resolution, and refresh rates than earlier models.
Those attending Sun ’n Fun can try the system in person at the Flight Simulation Center. Reservations for time slots are available through FlyInside’s booking system. Pimax says additional images and footage from the event will be made available throughout the week.
