Imaginesim’s Dallas Fort Worth airport for MSFS enters final stages of development

Imaginesim’s long-awaited rendition of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (KDFW) for Microsoft Flight Simulator appears to be approaching release, following the completion of internal testing and the start of final preparations for distribution.

In a recent social media statement, the developer confirmed that the release build is “progressing well,” with no major issues reported so far. The final version is now awaiting approval from partners, the installer team, and a design contributor. While no firm release date has been announced, Imaginesim suggests that launch is not far off.

KDFW is one of the most important airports in the world, ranking as the third busiest by aircraft movements and serving as a primary hub for American Airlines. Spanning more than 17,000 acres, it features seven runways and five passenger terminals, with a sixth currently under construction. Despite its scale and complexity, Dallas Fort Worth has remained absent from the growing list of high-fidelity MSFS airport add-ons—something this project aims to address.

According to Imaginesim, the scenery will include:

  • A detailed recreation of the airport’s infrastructure, including all five active terminals and the under-construction Terminal F site
  • Modeled cargo facilities
  • High-definition building textures
  • Custom SafeGate Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS)
  • Interactive jetways with bespoke animations
  • Optimization for smooth performance, including fast scenery cache loading and low simulator impact
  • Compatibility with Imaginesim’s Operations Center configuration utility

The product will be compatible with both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, although the 2020 version will release first. A single purchase will include both versions.

A preview video of the early access version was recently published by content creator Henrik Isaksen on YouTube, offering a first look at the scenery’s scope and detail. It’s still a pre-release build and does not represent the final product, but it offers a representative glimpse into the overall scope and level of detail of the scenery.

The airport is expected to release soon, although that timeline may depend on how quickly the final approval steps are completed.

For Microsoft Flight Simulator users looking for a detailed version of one of the world’s busiest airports, Imaginesim’s KDFW is shaping up to be a notable release this year. Stay tuned!
