In a surprising gift to the MSFS community, iniBuilds has today released a freeware version of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (KMKE). It’s another meticulously detailed airport from iniBuilds, opening the opportunity for simmers to visit Wisconsin and explore the busiest airport in the state.
Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport holds particular interest due to its diverse range of operations, including commercial, cargo, and general aviation, along with its strategic geographic placement near Chicago. The airport’s layout features multiple runways and a complex terminal that can challenge pilots with various weather conditions, especially during the snowy winter months.
KMKE’s role as a hub for airlines like Southwest also provides simmers with numerous domestic routes to simulate. Its combination of busy air traffic and seasonal weather variations makes for a dynamic and interesting environment for MSFS pilots, who can now get a highly detailed rendition of this airport without spending a dime!
iniBuilds has developed KMKE’s virtual counterpart by integrating hand-made ground textures that showcase crisp, bespoke designs for runways, aprons, paths, and roads. The visual fidelity extends to true-to-life landside recreations featuring custom ground decals, signposts, vegetation, and parking barriers that contribute to an immersive airport experience.
Every building, object, and surrounding environment at Mitchell Airport has been modeled with precision and features iniBuilds’ typical attention to detail, despite being offered for free. It’s another generous addition to the studio’s freeware offerings which includes, for example, Abu Dhabi Yas Island.
