Newcomer developer Atelic has made a strong first impression in Microsoft Flight Simulator with the release of its highly detailed rendition of Madeira’s Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport (LPMA).
Widely regarded as one of the most interesting and challenging airports in the world, LPMA is famous for its dramatic approach and complex landing conditions, which make it a sought-after destination for virtual pilots looking to put their skills to the test.
Located near the island’s main city of Funchal, Madeira Airport’s unique design includes a 2,781-meter runway partially extending over the Atlantic Ocean, supported by towering concrete pillars. With its difficult approach due to the surrounding mountainous terrain, strong crosswinds, and unpredictable weather conditions, the airport has earned a reputation as one of the most formidable in the world of commercial aviation.
Atelic’s first project aims to capture the essence of this thrilling airport through thorough, handcrafted work:
- High-definition terrain and an up-to-date ground layout reflecting the real-world airport.
- A fully modeled terminal interior and custom vehicles.
- Complex and accurate elements such as the runway bridge and lead-in lighting system (rabbit lights) for the signature approach to runway 05.
- Enhanced night lighting, improving the atmosphere for nighttime operations.
- Detailed surrounding areas, including the Santa Cruz village, Caniçal port, and buildings like the Hotel Vila Galé and Aquaparque Madeira, which line the approach path.
Atelic has also included animated elements such as ground traffic and go-karts, and notable features like the statue of Cristiano Ronaldo. The developer has also paid special attention to the airport’s distinctive runway bridge structure and the nearby sports complex beneath the runway.
Priced at approximately 20 euros, the airport is available now on Contrail.
