Today, we’re highlighting the work of two newcomer developers to the MSFS community and their debut airport sceneries. After featuring Atelic’s impressive rendition of LPMA Madeira Airport, we now turn to Photorico Scenery and their equally interesting work on TJPS Mercedita International Airport in Puerto Rico.
Mercedita International Airport is one of only three airports in Puerto Rico that regularly hosts jet airline flights. It currently serves as a hub for low-cost carriers, with JetBlue, Spirit, and Frontier connecting Ponce to Orlando (KMCO) and New York (JFK). These airlines primarily operate Airbus A320 family aircraft, with JetBlue occasionally using the Embraer 190 on select routes. Historically, the airport has seen services from major carriers such as American, Eastern, American Eagle, Cape Air, and Carnival Airways.
Military air traffic is also a notable aspect of Mercedita’s operations. The airport regularly accommodates C-17 military transport aircraft on technical stops, and in the past, it has seen visits from C-5, C-141, C-130, and KC-135 aircraft. The airport’s ramp is large enough to host aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 767 and has even received Air Force One on occasion.
