MK Studios launches Key West for MSFS 2024 as first stop in Florida expansion

Florida flight simulation is getting a significant overhaul today as MK Studios launches its rendition of Key West International Airport (KEYW). While the “Conch Republic” has seen previous representations in the sim, this release represents a clear change in direction for the developer, serving as the opening act for a larger Florida series that will eventually include major hubs like Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

For pilots, Key West is more than just a vacation spot. It is a high-stakes operational environment. The airport is famous for its relatively short 5,076-foot runway, which forces weight restrictions on larger aircraft and leaves little room for error on arrival. By bringing this to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, MK Studios is betting that the combination of challenging physics and high-fidelity visuals will capture the attention of regional and GA flyers alike.

The real Key West Airport has been undergoing significant expansion recently, including a new terminal project aimed at handling its 1.5 million annual passengers more efficiently. MK Studios says its version features an up-to-date ground layout and modeled terminal interiors, ensuring that the virtual experience reflects the current state of the facility.

The developer highlights that the product includes custom-designed, functional jetways with a walk-through feature, a detail that adds a layer of immersion for those who enjoy the “passenger experience” or conducting full walkaround inspections. Beyond the fence, the scenery extends into the local area with hand-crafted points of interest like the Southernmost Point Buoy and Mallory Square, which are essential for those flying low-level VFR approaches.

The first step in a Sunshine State roadmap

This release arrives at a time when the community is looking for high-quality, native MSFS 2024 content to fill out the Southeastern United States. MK Studios has already confirmed that this is just the beginning; the team is currently working on Miami (KMIA) and Fort Lauderdale (KFLL).

MK Studios has focused heavily on European hubs like Helsinki and Rome, so this move into the Florida market is a notable change in geography. By starting with a “boutique” airport like Key West, they are establishing a visual baseline before tackling the massive complexity of Miami.

Main features:

  • Highly detailed rendition of Key West International Airport (KEYW).
  • High-quality 3D models and textures.
  • Optimized terminal interiors.
  • Up-to-date new ground layout and terminal construction.
  • Custom-designed, functional jetways with walk-through feature.
  • Accurate lighting: custom approach, runway, and taxiway lights.
  • Hand-crafted taxiway signs, ground service, and airport vehicle models.
  • Custom points of interest in the close airport area.
  • Animated ground elements and local fauna (chickens).

MK Studios Key West is now available for approximately $20 USD on Contrail, OrbxSimMarket, and iniBuilds.
