Skyward Simulations Citation Sovereign+ enters final approach with impressive electrical systems

Skyward Simulations has released the first official trailer for its upcoming Cessna Citation C680 Sovereign+ for Microsoft Flight Simulator, confirming that the project is now in the final stages of development after more than two years of work. It’s a follow-up to the comprehensive systems reveal from last December.

The developer says it is “getting more excited by the day” to bring the aircraft to simmers soon. A separate sound showcase is also planned prior to release, with audio handled by Boris Audio Works, according to the team.

The newly published trailer from Practically Geek offers an extended look at the upcoming aircraft in action, highlighting both cockpit and exterior detail.

A deep systems focus

Skyward Simulations has previously outlined an extensive list of simulated systems for the Sovereign+, and the latest announcement reiterates that systems depth is a core focus of the project.

For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, the aircraft features a detailed electrical system with more than 170 simulated circuits, including battery temperature logic, ground power integration, and interactive circuit breakers.

For the 2024 platform, the developer claims to have rebuilt the entire electrical architecture from the ground up. According to Skyward, the new version includes close to 600 individual circuits, around 900 lines, more than 250 buses, and roughly 80 relays. The team also states it is responsible for the electrical system update currently seen in the Sim Update 5 beta for MSFS 2024.

Beyond the electrical system, the Sovereign+ is set to include fully simulated anti ice, bleed air, fuel, hydraulic, pressurization, and FADEC logic. The aircraft will model thrust limits across flight phases, TO servo logic, and cruise speed calculations linked to the FMS.

Datalink functionality is another major component. Skyward reports that the aircraft will simulate ACARS and CPDLC capabilities, including FANS 1/A+/ATN B1, with SATCOM and VHF modelling. Features such as D ATIS, oceanic clearances, weather requests, and ADS C are expected to be available.

G5000, EFB, and cabin features

The Sovereign+ will be equipped with an integrated Garmin G5000 suite, including dedicated synoptic pages for electrical, fuel, and hydraulic systems. The GTC controller will manage datalink services, a Takeoff and Landing Data computer, cabin systems, and system tests.

An onboard EFB tablet will provide payload and ground service management, state saving for fluids and oxygen, SimBrief integration, and support for Navigraph Charts. The team also notes that abnormal and emergency checklists are planned.

Skyward also mentions a passenger entertainment system with interactive cabin pages and VIP displays, extending functionality beyond the flight deck.

PCB level simulation

One of the more impressive technical aspects highlighted in the latest update concerns the electrical system for the 2024 version. Skyward states that it has moved beyond simple power logic and is simulating components down to individual printed circuit boards.

As an example, the developer describes how the anti ice PCB interacts with the landing gear weight on wheels board. Depending on whether the nose gear on ground signal is correctly sensed, the anti ice system transitions through different timed states before reaching the final engine configuration. The logic affects how outboard wing valves respond to pilot input and can change behaviour in the event of a simulated board failure.

According to Skyward, this level of detail allows for partial power losses, realistic failure modes, and more complex system interactions than previously possible in the simulator.

Coming soon

While no release date has been announced, it seems the C680 Sovereign+ may not be far from release. As always, we will keep an eye on further previews and the promised sound showcase as Skyward Simulations prepares to bring the Sovereign+ to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Stay tuned!
