TFDi Design has reached a significant milestone in the development of their highly anticipated MD-11 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The team has announced that the MD-11 is now officially feature-complete. This update has been pushed to the Quality Assurance (QA) team for final testing, marking a critical step towards its public release!
In the latest development update shared today, TFDi Design expressed their excitement about achieving feature-complete status for the MD-11. The update has been forwarded to their QA team, and once it passes this stage, it will be made available to Collector’s Edition license holders.
The development team will now focus on identifying and fixing bugs to ensure the aircraft meets their quality standards. While no specific timeline for the duration of this stage has been provided due to its fluid nature, the developers do not anticipate it will take long. Pre-sale purchasers will be able to download the MD-11 one week before its public release, although they won’t be able to fly it until the official release date.
Following the release, TFDi Design will continue to enhance the MD-11 with the ‘Extended Simulations’ package and additional tweaks based on user feedback.
Project Overview and Recent Timeline
The TFDi Design MD-11 has been in development for several years, with significant progress made over the past few months. The aircraft was initially released in a limited capacity to Collector’s Edition owners in November 2023. Since then, numerous updates and improvements have been implemented, transforming the MD-11 into a nearly unrecognizable state compared to its initial version.
In early April 2024, the team announced that they were aiming to make the MD-11 feature-complete by the end of the month. This target was missed by a couple of weeks as the team faced additional challenges, including a significant bug in the simulator that was resolved with the help of Asobo.
The MD-11 is designed to provide a highly realistic simulation experience of the iconic tri-jet airliner, featuring detailed systems such as electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems. It offers both passenger and cargo variants, with engine options from Pratt & Whitney and General Electric. The extended simulation package will introduce random and operational failures, circuit breaker functionality, and a custom failures menu for enhanced immersion and realism.
For those interested in tracking the project’s progress or pre-purchasing the MD-11, further information is available on the TFDi Design website.
With the MD-11 now feature-complete, simmers can look forward to its public release in the near future, provided testing progresses well and efficiently addresses any bugs. This milestone should also end the ‘feature-creep’ and hopefully set the stage for a release in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
